How to block porn on a Samsung phone: sites, apps and hidden spaces

Published 16 October 2026 - last updated 16 October 2026

To block porn on a Samsung Galaxy, turn on Google SafeSearch, set a filtering Private DNS, then check Secure Folder, Dual Messenger and Secret mode in Samsung Internet, the usual escape routes. Every one of these settings can be undone from the phone itself, so lasting protection needs Device Owner rights that cannot be removed or stopped.

How to block porn on a Samsung phone: sites, apps and hidden spaces

Samsung Galaxy phones are everywhere in Arab homes, and in Egypt you will often find one in the hands of every member of the family. They are excellent phones, but they come with features of their own that plain Android does not have, and some of them become a back door to pornography if you do not know they exist.

This guide walks you through what Samsung's own tools can do, step by step, where they stop, and how to close the doors they leave open.

Why does a Samsung phone need its own plan?

The risk is not hypothetical. In a Common Sense Media survey published in January 2023 of 1,358 US teens aged 13 to 17, 73% said they had seen pornography online, and the average age of first exposure was 12. The phone is the device closest to a teenager's hand at any hour.

Samsung adds three features you must know before you block anything:

  • Secure Folder: a separate encrypted space with its own apps and its own lock, whose icon can be hidden.
  • Dual Messenger: a second copy of a messaging app, signed in to another account.
  • Secret mode in Samsung Internet: erases history and cookies when its tabs are closed.

Blocking that leaves these doors open is incomplete blocking.

Step 1: turn on Google SafeSearch

SafeSearch removes explicit results such as nudity and violence from Google Search. Open your SafeSearch settings and choose Filter, not Blur: Blur only covers images and may still show explicit text and links.

Know its limit, though. According to Google's help page, SafeSearch works on Google Search only. It does not affect other search engines or the websites themselves.

Step 2: set a filtering Private DNS

Private DNS is an Android setting that decides which server translates site names into addresses. Point it at a family filtering service and porn sites are blocked on both Wi-Fi and mobile data.

  • Open Settings and search for Private DNS.
  • On most Galaxy phones it sits in the Connections section, under the advanced connection settings; the menu name varies by One UI version.
  • Choose Private DNS provider hostname, enter the filtering service's hostname, then tap Save.

The weakness is serious: anyone holding the phone can go back to the same screen and pick Automatic or Off in seconds, and a VPN app bypasses the setting entirely. That is why we wrote a separate explainer on why DNS blocking alone is not enough.

Step 3: use Samsung's child tools if the phone is a child's

According to Samsung's support page, child accounts in the Samsung Family group get settings for web content, apps and games, and downloads. They need One UI 5.1 or later:

  1. Settings, then tap your Samsung account name.
  2. Family, then Add family member, then Create child account.
  3. Later, in Family, tap the child's profile to set Web content, apps and a parental control PIN.

For time: Settings, then Digital Wellbeing (called Digital Wellbeing and parental controls on some versions), then App timers. Samsung says these features need Android 10 or later, and that some options have moved to Modes and Routines.

These are useful as a start, but they are built to organise use, not to hold out against a child hunting for a loophole.

Step 4: check Secure Folder and close it

This is the most important step on a Samsung, and the most often missed. Secure Folder can hold a complete browser or a copy of any app, behind a lock only its owner knows, and the icon itself can be hidden.

To check: Settings, then Security and privacy, then More security settings, then Secure Folder. If you are asked for a lock code, the folder exists.

The ways it can be hidden:

  • The Secure Folder tile in Quick Settings (swipe down with two fingers) hides and unhides it.
  • The Add Secure Folder to Apps screen switch in its settings.
  • Customize inside the folder changes its name, colour and icon, so it may show up under an innocent name.

To remove it: in Secure Folder settings tap More settings, then Uninstall. Before confirming you can choose to move media files out of the folder.

Samsung's page notes that screens vary by carrier and software version, and it describes auto-lock changes starting with Android 16 and One UI 8. If your labels differ, search Settings for "Secure Folder".

Step 5: review Dual Messenger

Dual Messenger installs a second copy of a messaging app for another account, marked with a small symbol on its icon.

  • The path: Settings, then Advanced features, then Dual Messenger.
  • To remove all copies: open the three-dot menu, choose Delete all my data, then Delete. This removes every Dual Messenger app and its data.

Step 6: know what Secret mode hides

In Samsung Internet, Secret mode opens from the Tab manager button, then Turn on Secret mode. According to Samsung, cookies and browsing history are erased when all Secret mode tabs are closed, and anything saved there is visible only inside it.

In practice: an empty browser history does not mean nothing happened. The answer is not to watch the history but to filter at the level of the whole system, which no browser and no mode can step around.

Summary: what each built-in tool does, and where it stops

Tool What it does Where it stops
SafeSearch Filters Google Search results Does not block the sites or other search engines
Private DNS Filters connections on Wi-Fi and mobile data Can be changed in Settings; VPN apps bypass it
Samsung child account Web content and apps for a child Children only; needs One UI 5.1 or later
App timers Limits time per app Blocks no content at all
Removing Secure Folder and Dual Messenger Closes the hidden spaces that exist now They can be created again at any time

Why do all these settings fail in the end?

Because they are all set from inside the phone, and whoever holds the phone can undo them. Changing the DNS, installing a VPN app, creating a new Secure Folder or running a factory reset from Settings puts everything back the way it was.

Protection that holds needs rights higher than the user's. On Android those rights are called Device Owner: an official Android mechanism, with no root, no bootloader unlock, and no effect on the warranty.

How does Tabaa close these doors on a Samsung?

Tabaa runs with Device Owner rights, so the blocking comes from the system itself:

  • Cannot be stopped or deleted from inside the phone: the system removes the uninstall, force stop and clear data buttons.
  • Private DNS pinned and locked: to the filtering resolver, covering browsers, in-app browsers, Wi-Fi, mobile data and any SIM.
  • Pornography always blocked, SafeSearch enforced: the porn block cannot be lifted from the app.
  • VPN, proxy, Tor and DNS-changer apps blocked: the VPN setting is locked on a child's phone; in Tabaa Adults the VPN lock is on from the start and you choose whether to commit to it.
  • Factory reset from Settings locked.
  • Hidden spaces can be locked: extra users, the work profile and the private space.
  • Keeps working after a reboot and with no internet.

It does not use the Accessibility service and does not read the screen or messages, so banking and wallet apps keep working, and Google accounts are untouched.

Which product fits?

  • If the phone is your child's: Tabaa Children, controlled from the Supervisor app on your phone. Only what you approve opens.
  • If you are protecting yourself: Tabaa Adults, with no supervisor and nobody seeing your reports; you choose the security factors and can commit to them for a term or for ever.

Before installing on a Samsung: a checklist

Installation runs from a Windows computer over the charging cable, with no factory reset and nothing erased. Before you start:

  1. Move Secure Folder's contents out to the phone, then remove the folder. Any hidden space must be removed before installing, and removing it deletes what is inside.
  2. Move what you need out of Dual Messenger, then delete its copies.
  3. Turn on developer options by tapping the build number seven times, then turn on USB debugging.
  4. Connect the phone to the computer and accept the prompt.
  5. Sign out of every account when the program asks (Settings, Accounts), and sign back in after the success mark appears.

The full walkthrough is in our guide to installing without losing data. Tabaa needs Android 10 or later. If you want help, support answers on WhatsApp in Arabic, and partner shops can install it for you.

Start today

Do the free steps now: SafeSearch, and a check of Secure Folder and Dual Messenger. Then put in protection that does not fall with one tap, so you are not starting from zero every time a new loophole appears.

Common questions

Does Samsung have a built-in setting that blocks porn sites?
Not one switch that covers everything. Samsung child accounts (One UI 5.1 or later) have web content settings, Google SafeSearch filters Google Search results only, and Private DNS filters connections but can be changed in Settings at any time.
How do I know if there is a hidden Secure Folder on the phone?
Go to Settings, Security and privacy, More security settings, Secure Folder. If it asks for a lock code, the folder exists, even if its icon is hidden from the Apps screen.
Can Secure Folder be removed completely?
Yes. In Secure Folder settings tap More settings, then Uninstall. Move photos and files out first, because uninstalling deletes what is inside.
Do I need a factory reset to install Tabaa on a Samsung?
No. It installs from a computer over the charging cable, with no factory reset and nothing erased. Any hidden space must be removed before installing, after you move its contents out.
Does the protection work on both Wi-Fi and mobile data?
With Tabaa, yes: the phone's Private DNS is pinned to the filtering resolver and locked, so it covers Wi-Fi, mobile data and any SIM.
