What is Device Owner, and why does it make protection stick?

Device Owner is Android's highest administrative privilege, the same mechanism large companies use to manage their staff's phones. Tabaa uses it so the operating system itself enforces the block: the app cannot be stopped or deleted from inside the phone, factory reset from Settings is locked, and protection keeps working after a reboot and with no internet.
What does Device Owner mean?
Android has an official device-management mechanism that lets one app be made “owner” of the whole device. That app can control apps, the network and device policy in ways no ordinary app can. It is the same mechanism companies and banks use to secure their staff’s phones, and Tabaa uses it for one purpose: real protection from pornography and digital addiction.
The key difference is that no app sits watching the screen and trying to close what opened. The system itself refuses, so the block holds on any launcher, on Wi-Fi and on mobile data, with any SIM.
A block can sit at four levels
The real difference between protection tools is not the list of sites. It is the level the block sits at, because that decides where the first gap opens:
- Account level: protection is tied to an account. Another account or user profile on the same phone falls outside it.
- App level: an app reads the screen through the Accessibility permission. That permission can be switched off in Settings, and all protection stops with it.
- Network level: filtering on the router. It ends the moment the phone switches to mobile data. Details in why DNS blocking alone is not enough.
- Device level: the operating system enforces the policy on the whole device. No account to leave, no profile to hide in, no permission to switch off. This is where Tabaa sits.

How is the privilege granted?
Once, from a computer over the charging cable, following the steps on the Tabaa Children or Tabaa Adults page. You sign out of your accounts, the program grants the privilege, and you sign back in. No factory reset; apps, photos and chats stay where they are. That Android requirement is the source of the strength: just as no app can take this privilege behind your back, nobody can pull it from the app with one tap.
Why the protection does not come off
Android treats the owner app as part of managing the device itself: uninstall, disable, force stop and clear data are not available to whoever holds the phone. Factory reset from Settings is locked. Protection survives a reboot, restarts by itself if the system stops the service, and keeps working with the phone fully offline.
On Tabaa Children the decision is the parent’s, from the supervisor app, and any change reaches the phone in seconds. On Tabaa Adults the decision is yours, taken at full resolve, and removal goes through support only.
Without trespassing on your privacy

Common questions
- If I add another Google account or a second space, does blocking keep working?
- Accounts have nothing to do with the protection: add or switch as many as you like and the block stays. Second space, work profiles, cloned apps and the private space are all locked, so no corner of the phone escapes.
- Does this privilege let Tabaa read my messages?
- No. The privilege is administrative: apps, network and device policy. Tabaa does not use the Accessibility permission that reads the screen, does not read notifications, and does not ask for the camera, microphone, messages, contacts or photos.
- Do I need root or a modified system?
- No. Device Owner is an official mechanism built into Android itself, with no root and no unlocked bootloader, and it does not affect the phone's warranty.
- Do I need a new phone or a factory reset?
- No. The install runs from a computer over the charging cable on your phone as it is, erasing nothing. You sign out of your accounts during the install and back in afterwards, which is a requirement of Android itself.
- What if I want to remove the protection entirely later?
- On Tabaa Children the parent lifts it from the supervisor app. On Tabaa Adults there is no removal button on the phone: removal goes through support only, so the decision is never made in a weak moment.
